Group A – Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Burundi
Group B – Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti
Uganda has been pooled in Group B along side Kenya’s Harambee Starlets, Ethiopia’s Lucy and Dinknesh and Djibouti at the 2019 CECAFA Women Championship.
Eight teams will take part in this year’s tourney slated in Tanzania in November 14-23.
Commenting about the group and entire tournament, Crested Cranes national team coach Faridah Bulega disclosed the burning desire of ‘bringing it home’.
“I do not want anything apart from from bringing the championship home, we played the final in Rwanda and missed by a whisker but our time is now,” Bulega told the-SportsNation.com.
Uganda is set to miss a number of players that featured in Rwanda enroute to the final like Captain Tracy Jones Akiror who is currently in the states for studies and the versatile Yudaya Nakayenze.
This however brings no worries to the gaffer who has confidence in the local players to get the job done.
“Yes, I miss some of my instrumental players who are not in the country but am planting trust in the young local players, they are many with talent and I believe after summoning the 35, I will trim it to the best in each number.”
Uganda will surely have a pool of players to chose from considering the masterclass performance in the COSAFA U17 championship recently held in Mauritius.
It should be remembered that Ethiopia ejected Uganda from the 2020 Olympic qualification round after a 4-2 aggregate, winning 3-2 at home and 1:0 at Startimes stadium, Lugogo.
Juliet Nalukenge, Fauzia Najjemba, Shamillah Nalujja, Ruth Arturo, Nassuna Hasifah, Shadia Nankya are some of the key players the coach will look at to build a formidable side.
