NBL Playoffs: KIU Rangers Hold Off Nkumba To Take Game One

KIU Rangers fended off late resistance from Nkumba Lady Marines to take game one of the NBL women quarter finals.

The Rangers almost blew a 15 point lead when Nkumba came into touching distance after a late surge down the stretch but held on to snatch a laboured win at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

KIU had good homework on stopping Brenda Ekone but the Nkumba ace managed to stroll through the defence to clinch a game high 24 points.

Ines Kanyamunza had 20 points to take home player of the match performance gong courtesy of UAP Insurance in a winning effort. Racheal Akinyi and Ninette Uwineza had 14 and 11 points respectively for KIU.

Fina Busingye bagged 12 while Catherine Haruri managed 10 points for Nkumba who had finished fourth ahead of from fifth placed KIU in the regular season.

Ekone’s Nkumba will look to level the series when the two sides meet in game two while KIU Rangers will seek for a win to reach the semis.
