All is set for this year’s FUFA Super Cup.
This, is played between the champions of the previous Uganda Premier League and the holders of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. In case one wins the double, the league champion face with the Uganda cup runners up.
The final, acts a curtain raiser for the new league season.
KCCA FC will face Proline FC in this year’s Super Cup set on Wednesday at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
To reach this stage, KCCA clinched the 2018/19 league title with 66 points after winning 19 games, drawn 9 and lost 2.
Proline FC on the other other hand, playing in FUFA Big league then, managed to upset odds when they lifted the Uganda Cup with a 5-4 shootout win after a one all draw with Bright Stars in a final played at Masaka Recreation Centre in May this year.
KCCA FC won the Super Cup last year when they needed penalty shootouts (4-2) to overcome Vipers after a goalless draw at Wankulukuku.
This will be a meeting of familiar teams that often face off even on a non competitive basis at Lugogo.
In the 2017/18 league season, Proline FC beat KCCA 2-1 before Mike Mutebi’s team won the second round fixture 2-0 thanks to goals from Shaban Mohammed and Derrick Nsibambi on May 2018.
KCCA beat Proline FC in last year’s Philip Omondi Invitation tourney. Proline FC had won it also in September 2017 with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from David Owor and Daniel Isiagi before Abubaker Sadiq scored a consolation.
On Wednesday, Proline FC players on loan from KCCA FC – Bernard Muwanga, Hassan Matovu and Ibrahim Wamanah – are ineligible to face parent club.
Both teams are representing Uganda on the continent – KCCA FC beat Namibia’s African Stars in the CAF Champions League preliminary round and will face Petro Atletico de Luanda of Angola for a ticket to the group stages.
Proline FC, coached by Matia Lule who replaced Shafic Bisaso, ousted Malawi’s Masters Security FC to book a date with Rwanda’s AS Kigali.
