The Uganda U19 National cricket team has today been flagged off to represent the country at the Star Field Youth League a Global Youth Tournament in Nairobi Kenya which starts from August 20th – August 26th 2019.
A contingent of 13 players(nine players all making their U19 debut)and Two officials will be traveling by road today evening for the third edition of the tournament and they play their first game on Wednesday 21st,
The tournament will be played on the T20 format.
While Flagging off the team at National council of Sports,Lugogo, Mr James Kasumba who represented the General secretary NCS, a urged the young players
As u are going to participate in this tournament,you are going to represent Uganda as country, so i strongly aurge you and request you to make our names as Uganda, to be sang highly” James Kasumba.
On the the behalf of team,Pascal Murungi the team captain is confident that his side is going to defend its trophy.
“We are the defending champion,so as we are going there we hope to still do the same,defend our trophy because we have a very solid team” said Captain.
The third edition of the tournament has attracted teams From Nairobi,Mombasa,Kisum, Nakuru,Tanzania,India and south Africa to participate in different categories Under-9, U11,U13,U15 and U19.
According to Uganda Cricket Association,they(Uganda cricket Association) are going to use this tournament as one of the early preparations embarked on for the coveted slot at the prestigious 2022 U19 World Cup.
This is the second time Ugandan participating in the tournament and its the defending champion.
