Villa Mix Young, Old In Pursuit Of ‘Right Chords’

SC Villa are expected to announce their final squad for the 2019/20 season soon.

The 16 time record Uganda Premier League winners have not tasted league triumph since 2004 but will take a brave shot at it this coming season.

The side named Edward Kaziba as the new head coach, and will be assisted by Ibrahim Kirya, Nestroy Kizito and Philip Ssozi.

The side has been conducting trials at Villa park in Nsambya and have had over 100 players to select from.

The squad has consequently been trimmed, but the selectors still have a heavy work load to assemble a team that will compete favourably against favourites KCCA, Vipers and URA FC.

Ali Kimera and Saidi Keni are expected to make the final cut in goal with the latter being part of the team that struggled to survive the drop last season.

Talking of last season, Albert Mugisa, Derrick Ndahiro, Lincoln Mukisa and Charles Lwanga are still part of the team.

Bashir Mutanda has also started training with club but Habib Kavuma, Ashraf Mandela and Asuman Alishe (doubtful) are some of the players that have left for greener pastures.

Abdul Karim Kasule, Musa Doca and Owen Kasule are expected to be added soon.

Among the so called ‘unknowns’ that have been making trials include Najib Kasule, Jamal Butochera, Moses Owori, Douglas Kiiza among others.

Last season, the Jogoos occupied 12th place with 34 points after finishing third in the 2017/18 season when they accumulated 55 points.
