Priscilla Abei managed to outscore YMCA Lady Hamsters by a point in UCU Lady Canons’ enormous victory in the Tusker Lite Sponsored NBL.
Abei, who recently featured for Uganda’s National Basketball team the Gazelles, shot 13-22 from the field to garner a game high 28 points as UCU won 120-27 at Lugogo. She added 15 rebounds.
The Lady Canons shot 55 of 100 shots from the field, 8 of 16 from the line and made only two three pointers.
Playing with just two bench players, all UCU players scored in double figures except Shakira Nanvubya who had five points. The former Magic Stormers star weighed in with a game high 7 assists.
Maimuna Nabbosa made a late rally to tally 26 points, Sarah Ageno had 22 points and 14 rebounds in a player of the match performance.
Zainah Lokwameri, returning after missing three games, looked rusty with a couple of turnovers but managed to score 14 points. Rose Akon and Ruth Noela Letaru had 15 and 10 points respectively.
For YMCA, Perus Nyamwenge (11 points) was the only player to reach double figures. Bridget Aber who later limped off after twisting her ankle made 7 points in a losing effort.
The victory was the 12th (dozen) for the Mukono based side who have played 15 and lost 3 games. UCU, destined to finish third on the log after the regular season, still has to face KIU Rangers, A1 Challenge and Angels Basketball Club.
