Taddeo Lwanga Joins Egypt Club

Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has joined Egyptian side Tanta Sports Club, sources have confirmed.

Details of the deal are yet to emerge.

Taddeo who started his professional career at Express FC in 2014, has played for SC Villa and Vipers SC.

Lwanga was at Vipers where he was named the club’s best player last season but refused to renew his contract after expiry at the Kitende based side.

He becomes the fourth Ugandan player to join Egypt league in this current season transfer – Emma Okwi (Ittihad), Khalid Aucho (Makassa) and Abdul Lumala (Pyramids) are the other players.

He was part of the Cranes team that competed at the concluded 2019 AFCON in Egypt. His last game was in Djibouti where he scored once as Uganda beat Somalia 3-1 in CHAN qualifiers.

Tanta is a newly promoted team – They sealed the promotion to the Egyptian Premier League following their 2-0 away win against Sidi Salem on 11 April 2019.

The club returned to the Egyptian Premier League after spending only one season in the Egyptian Second Division, as they were relegated from the Egyptian Premier League during the 2017/18 season.

The club was established on 5 June 1926 and is one of the oldest football clubs in Africa.
