Victoria Cup: Rugby Cranes Fall To Zimbabwe Sables

Uganda 26-31 Zimbabwe

Uganda’s senior Rugby team, the Rugby Cranes lost 31-27 to Zimbabwe sables in a Victoria cup encounter played at Legends grounds, Kampala.

The loss piles more misery for the team that came into the game on the back if an Elgon cup loss to Kenya Simbas.

Desire Ayera’s two tries, and three penalties plus a drop goal from Philip Wokorach proved not enough despite a late surge.

Zimbabwe had come out of their blocks too early, crossing the white line inside the first minute on their way to opening up a 19-00 lead to silence a fully packed Legends.

“It’s a game we wanted to win but we started slowly, and got punished. We thank our fans and we promise to come back stronger next time,” Cranes’ Ivan Magomu told journalists briefly.

Uganda has now lost twice and won once at this year’s revived Victoria Cup (including Elgon cup results) while this was Zimbabwe’s second victory.

In the other tie, Kenya picked a 43-23 win away to Zambia.

The Sables’ Hilton Mudariki was named man of the match against Uganda.
