2021 AFCON Qualifiers: Uganda To Learn Group Opponents

All is set for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers draw.

The draw will take place on Thursday, 18 July 2019, at Aida Ballroom Cairo Marriott Hotel, Zamalek. This will be during the 32nd CAF General Assembly.

The pots for the draw have been revealed by Caf.

Uganda have been pitted in Pot 2 with Kenya, Guinea, South Africa, Cape Verde, Zambia, Benin, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, Mauritania, Niger and Libya – Implying that the Cranes will not face any of those teams.

Uganda, who reached AFCON 2019 knockout stage for the first time in 41 years, will be grouped with any team from Pot 1, Pot 3 and Pot 5.

The draw will give 12 groups of four teams each (Group A to L). The first two teams in each group at the end of the qualifying round, will qualify for the 2021 Nations cup.

Uganda Cranes will seek to return to the continental showpiece for another third year in a row after previous appearances in Gabon 2017 and Egypt 2019.

The Pots – CAF

Pot 1: Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria, Morocco, Congo DR, Ghana, Cameroon (hosts), Egypt, Burkina Faso, Mali, Ivory Coast, Algeria

Pot 2: Guinea, South Africa, Cape Verde, Uganda, Zambia, Benin, Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, Mauritania, Niger, Kenya, Libya

Pot 3: Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Central African Republic, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Malawi, Togo, Sudan, Tanzania

Pot 4: Burundi, Rwanda, Equatorial Guinea, eSwatini, Lesotho, Botswana, Comoros, Ethiopia plus four preliminary-round winners

*Pot 5: Liberia, Mauritius, Gambia, South Sudan, Chad, Sao Tome e Principe, Seychelles, Djibouti.

Note: Teams in Pot 5 will face each other in a preliminary qualification round, with the four winners being added onto Pot 4.
