JKL have lost their virginity at 14.

A1 Challenge have broken JKL Lady Dolphins’ unbeaten run in a pulsating league game played at YMCA court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

A1 won 49-48 in a close affair, to stop the dominance of the defending champions that had seen the side win 13 games.

With the game tied 48-48, A1’s Elizabeth Akol made one of the two free throws to give her side a 49-48 lead with about 30 seconds to the end of the game.

JKL’s Rita Imanishimwe was denied at the other end when her two point shot was blocked by Charline Ursula before A1 shared the ball as the clock expired.

At the final buzzer, as A1 Challenge players broke in frenzy celebrations, some of JKL officials including technical director Fredericks ‘Freedom’ Owora stormed the scorers bench to address their complaints but all in vain. Nothing could be changed.

A1 trailed 20-29 after the first half, but Hamza Nyambogo’s troops fought back in a strong third quarter which they won 17-10 in a game that exchanged leads and tied on various occasions.

In a low scoring game, A1 shot just 18 of 72 from the field, and were out rebounded 60-69.

JKL made 21 turnovers and had their bench produce just five points, in what will stand as the poorest outing of the season so far.

Ruth Atuheire, despite fluffing from the line, scored a game high 20 points and picked 13 rebounds. Agnettah Kambua and Georgia Adhiambo made seven points each. Susan Amito and Charline Ursula contributed 10 rebounds each. Elizabeth Akol weighed in with six assists.

Jamila Nansikombi (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Hope Akello (10 points, 22 rebounds) double doubles were not enough to save JKL.

The Lady Dolphins had won the first round tie 70- 42 on April 26 at YMCA.
