Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has on Wednesday, July 10 confirmed Abdallah Mubiru as the new Uganda Cranes coach on an interim basis.
Mubiru’s assignment is to help Uganda at the coming CHAN qualifiers only. CHAN is a tournament played by locally based players playing in the domestic leagues of the respective countries.
The development was confirmed by FUFA President Eng Moses Magogo during a press briefing at Mengo.
Magogo clarified that the job for the National team coach is still open for all Ugandans and non Ugandans to apply.
He also added that the coaching staff for the male senior and junior teams are vacant.
He will be assisted by Livingston Mbabazi, Sadiq Wasswa and Geoffrey Massa.
It should be noted that Mubiru and his team were recently appointed to handle the Cranes team in COSAFA where Uganda were guests in May.
Uganda will face Somalia in the CHAN qualifiers with the first leg in Mogadishu on July 26/28 before the return leg in Kampala on August 2/4.
The winner between Uganda and Somalia over two legs will face the victor between Burundi and South Sudan in second round.
