Tooro province defied odds to pick maximum points off hosts Kampala province in a FUFA Drum game played at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
Tooro province reached the knockout round at the expense of Kampala in the second edition of the now famous FUFA Drum.
Second half goals from Keziron Kizito and Ashraf Mandela each, sealed a shock result to see Kampala finish third, outside the qualification bracket in group A.
Kampala province came into the fixture needing three points to make it out of the group stages in what was dubbed as a do or die game.
However, after a goalless first half, Tooro came back the strongest side and their surge paid off in the 50th minute with Keziron scoring off an assist from his young brother Ronald Kikonyogo.
With less than 15 minutes on the clock, Tooro’s Ashraf Mandela doubled the advantage when he beat the entire Kampala Province defence and goal keeper Bashir ssekagya to send the travelling fans into wild celebrations.
Just after scoring, Ashraf Mandela got booked, his second yellow, to receive matching orders by center referee David Odoi for putting off his shirt.
Tooro joins Busoga region as the two qualified teams to quarter finals in group A. Busoga beat Rwenzori 3-0 thanks to efforts from David Bagoole, Patrick Gonahasa and Jimmy Kulaba in a game played at Kamuli.
Lango picked a needed draw away to Ankole in Mbarara to storm the quarters out of group B with 10 points, five below leaders Buganda who beat Sebei 4-2 in Luwero.
Viane Ssekajugo bagged a brace before Ssekulima paul and Buyala Baker added one each INA deserved win. Ayeko Johas and Chemoges Tomex scored from the spot each for the visitors.
