Uganda’s dream of playing at 2019 AfroBasket were ended by Kenya on Sunday.

The Gazelles, as the Women national basketball team is named, lost 62-67 to Kenya in a semi final tie played at Indoor Arena in Lugogo, Kampala.

The Gazelles were favourites going into Sunday’s game after beating the same opponents in the last group game on Saturday.

Kenya led from start to finish, including a nine point run in the second quarter. Ronnie Owino’s side collected 25 points off the bench and benefited from Uganda’s poor shooting – 20/75 – to storm the finals.

Felmas Odhiambo Koranga and Betty Kananu scored 19 and 12 points each to lead Kenya past Uganda. The latter added 14 rebounds to her impressive tally.

Claire Lamunu (21 points and 17 rebounds) filled the stat sheet but that can’t be said of her teammates except Martha Soigi (12) and Jamila Nansikombi (10) who scored double figures.

The Gazelles shot an ugly 3-31 from the three point range and made 19 turnovers on the day they will want to forget easily.
