Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC will face off with Azam FC in the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup, it has been confirmed.
KCCA FC has been pitted against Tanzania’s Azam in group B alongside Rwanda’s Mukura and Kenya’s Bandari FC.
Azam, the home of Uganda Cranes fullback Nicholas Wadada, has won the CECAFA Cup for the last two editions.
They beat Simba FC 2-1 at the National Stadium in 2018, while Gor Mahia claimed bronze after edging Zanzibar’s Jeshi Uchumi.
KCCA began their preparations earlier this week on Monday, June 17 with simple pitch drills before hitting the gym the following days.
It should be noted that KCCA FC became the first Ugandan side to win the CECAFA cup in 1978.
In similar developments, Rwanda champions Rayon Sports have TP Mazembe (DR Congo). Uganda’s other representatives Proline FC are in Group C alongside APR, Heegan and Green Buffaloes.
The CECAFA Cup will kickoff on July 21
