Woodball: Junior Championship Receives Boost

Uganda woodball Federation has received Sh13M from the Institute of certified public accountants of Uganda in an event held at CPA offices in Kamwokya, Bukoto street.

For the tenth year running, the institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has confirmed and increased its sponsorship worth Sh13M for the 10th ICPAU junior woodball championship from the Sh7M last year.

The sponsorship will cater for playing kits that is about 600 CPA branded T-shirts, winner trophies to over 14 winners, medals for over 60 winners and 1000 pens for all students participated.

“The rationale for this partnership is to give back to the society by naturing young talent,” said madam Susannie Kyamanywa, the chief executive officer ICPAU.

She added that: “Ten years later the institute of certified public accountants of Uganda is still committed to work with Uganda woodball federation to promote the sport in Uganda.

“I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate Uganda woodball federation upon successfully hosting the world beach woodball championship in Entebbe last month.”

This year’s junior championship will be hosted by Buziga Islamic school on 22 June 2019.

At least 744 participants from both primary and secondary schools that qualified from various regions in the country will be tussling it out for the national award

According to Collins Ssemmanda, General secretary Uganda woodball federation, the strategy for qualifying changed from the 7th edition where schools used to qualify from different region to a new qualification system where by only that/those qualify as top 3 from different regions make it to the national championship.

Over 15 regions will be represented in this year edition and these include Kiryandongo, Lwengo, Luwero, Jinja, Masaka, Mityana, Kampala, Entebbe, Kawempe, Nakaseke,Gayaza, Nansana, Nsangi, Gulu and Mukono.

Tight competition is expected from Mpoma schools, Malongo Baptist high school Lwengo, Luzira S S, Kings college Budo and Buziga Islamic in secondary schools.

In primary schools, tight competition is expected from Nalugala Muslim, Green Acres,Kyazanga modern primary, and st Agnes Entebbe.
