Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC have confirmed participation in the 2019 CECAFA Kagame tournament set in Kigali.
The development was confirmed via the club’s official website, and also a response to address the letter from FUFA CEO Edgar Watson Suubi.
Quoting Anisha Muhoozi the Ag. Chief Executive Officer of KCCA FC, that;
“We wish to confirm that KCCA Football Club will represent Uganda at the CECAFA – Kagame Cup 2019.”
The tournament brings together champions of various countries located in the CECAFA region, will kickofff on 6th to 21st July 2019.
KCCA FC confirmed that their players and technical team are currently on holiday but will return for preseason preparations on Monday 17th June 2019 ahead of the tournament.
It should be noted that KCCA FC became the first Ugandan Club to win the CECAFA Cup that was held in Kampala, Uganda in 1978.
In similar developments, Simba have withdrawn, citing the short period between the conclusion of last season and the start of the 2019/20 domestic season as the main reason for their withdrawal, according to Goal website.
Zesco United of Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo duo AS Vita and Motema Pembe have already confirmed their participation.
The host nation will be represented by Rayon Sports, APR and Mukura.
The winner of the annual tournament will walk home with prize money worth U$D 30,000. Clubs which win their domestic leagues in the region book an automatic ticket to the tournament.
Azam of Tanzania are the reigning champions after beating domestic rivals Simba last year in Dar es Salaam.
