Africa T20 Championship: Lady Cricket Cranes Off The Mark

Uganda started their ICC Women’s T20 Africa regional title defence on a bright note after beating Sierra Leone in a group B game played at Harare, Zimbabwe.

Damalie Busingye collected a player of the match performance with with the bat while Consy Aweko flourished wit the ball for the Lady Cricket Cranes, who set 143 for the fall of two wickets, to win by 90 runs.

Uganda will return to action on Tuesday with a game against Namibia before facing Kenya on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Namibia, setting 117/6, beat Kenya by 39 runs in the other group B game.

In group A, Zimbabwe beat Mozambique by 163 runs while Rwanda’s 102/6 lifted them over Nigeria to earn 37 runs.

Uganda won the toss and captain Kevin Awino elected to bat first which turned out to be the best decision.

Despite Racheal Ntono leaving with two runs, fellow opener Damalie Busingye remained on the crease to hit 65 off 59 balls (not out) including five boundaries to give Uganda the needed stamina.

Naomi Kayondo and Franklyn Najjumba scored 34 and 26 runs respectively to set 143 runs after 20 overs.

In the second innings, Uganda proved their superiority with ball, as Consy Aweko picked four wickets, including two in her last over, with a n economy of 1.56 as the girls eliminated Sierra Leone all out with just 53 runs.

Immaculate Nakisuyi picked three wickets before Rita Musamali picked the other in a commanding victory.
