All is set for the Afro-varsity 3X3 Basketball Championship which is to take place at the USIU in Nairobi, Kenya.
This will be third edition of the competition, the two day annual event will take place this Saturday to Sunday.
The competition, for both male and female, is for African Universities with players below the age of 23.
The top two teams from both categories will qualify to the 3X3 FISU World University League 2019 in Xiamen, China from October 30 to November 3rd, 2019.
Uganda will be represented by UCU and Makerere Universities. Ndejje are yet to confirm their participation, despite appearing on the men’s roster.
With the top two teams qualify for the World University Championship in China, UCU coach Nicholas Natuhereza is very optimistic.
“This is a good tourney that gives us exposure. I can’t predict how far we can go but I believe that we have a good chance.”
In 2017, UCU women team managed to grab one of the top two places to qualify for the world event in China. They did it with Racheal Muwanguzi, Zainah Lokwameri, Vilma Achieng and Rita Imanishimwe.
The team didn’t qualify last year.
This year, the team has Sarah Ageno, Brenda Kayaga, Maimuna Nabbosa and Rose Akon. The male team has David Deng, Isaiah Mabeny Ater, Titus Lual and Caesar Adoke.
