Chris Omanye: Crafty Guard Reflects On Warriors Debut

New Pemba Warriors Point guard Chris Omanye Basheke made his Warriors debut as the Kyambogo-based side beat KCCA Men 75-61 on Saturday at Lugogo.

Omanye joined Warriors before the start of the season from KIU Titans, ending speculations that had linked him to JKL Dolphins and KCCA Men.

“It’s a great team,” Omanye spoke about his new side. “There is good organisation here and I loved the passion they used to get to me.”

“I saw areas I can help improve the team and that fits me. Other than that, I love competing and winning, and Warriors is all about that.”

Despite not having a colourful debut as he would have wanted, scoring only three points, four rebounds and one assist, he is confident that all will be well with time.

Speaking about how he is finding his team mates at the club, he states:

“You know what’s like to be new in a team. Some people find it hard to fit in but guess what, it hasn’t been the case with me from the first day i got there. We clicked.”

Omanye is one of the top scoring guards in the league, scored 313 points last season, and his input will be key if Warriors are to end their seven year jinx without winning a championship.

Omanye on the line.

Omanye is known for his craft he employs to create advantages in a bid to protrude through defenses at a more efficient rate than others.

However, his contribution will be fueled by the chemistry between him and other stars on the team like Mike Buzangu and Stanley Mugerwa.

“We have been training together as a team just a little more than a month so we have been working on our team chemistry on both ends of the floor.

“We have other new people on the team. As a team this year its one game at a time and the sky is the limit.”
