NBL: Rude Welcome For YMCA, MUK Sparks

Women National Basketball League new comers MUK Sparks and YMCA Lady Hamsters were given baptism of fire in their opening games on Saturday.

MUK and YMCA lost 41-62 and 42-77 respectively to KIU and UCU in that order.

Last year’s finalists UCU won the first three quarters before switching off the beast mode to lose the last quarter 13-14 but damage was already done.

The Lady Canons were big value for the result, having the trio of Zainah Lokwameri (21 points, 15 rebounds), Maimuna Nabbosa (21, 3 rebounds) and Shakira Nanvubya (15 points, 5 rebounds) register double point figures.

Millicent Winnie and Shalom Muwanguzi had 18 and 10 points respectively in a losing effort for Iverson Hendrix’s charges who will rue missing some of their players who helped see the team earn promotion from Div I.

In the first game, KIU Rangers who were coached by Sudi Ulanga, were not forgiving, Brenda Aujat scored a game high 23 points. Sparks’ captain Ruth Nangiro Moding had 13 points.

KIU’s Brenda Aujat (Right) was the best player.
