City Oilers got off the mark with a 69-66 win over top rivals Betway Power in an epic National Basketball League encounter played at MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
The victory is a strong statement of intent for any team that will look to dethrone Oilers this season. The side managed to make a comeback victory over rivals Betway Power, doing so without their head coach Mandy Juruni who is on a weeks leave in the United States.

Power surrendered a ten point lead at the break but could later give Oilers a big run for their money in a game that saw the lead exchange hands on various occasions.
Oilers were strong value for the result, with youngster Ivan Muhwezi scoring a team high 16 points before he was stretchered off after a collision with Syrus Kiviiri.

Speaking of Kiviiri, the guard had a colourful debut for Power franchise, scoring a game high 17 points, despite ending on a losing side.
In an epic encounter, Oilers Nigerian import Francis Chisioke Ajolibe had a nightmare debut, fouling out inside the first stanza.
With records in shade, this might be City Oilers first victory in an opening fixture since joining top flight.
