BUL 1-0 Kirinya Jinja
Maroons 2-1 Tooro
Mbarara City 0-0 Vipers
URA SC 0-1 Bright Stars
Mbarara City FC dented Vipers’ title chances with a goalless draw in a game played at Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara.
After fellow title rivals KCCA winning their game on Tuesday, the Venoms needed nothing but victory to keep their title chances alive.
However, a point is what Coach Nam Michael Ouma’s charges settled for in a closely contested affair.
Mbarara will have goalkeeper Muhammad Ssekeba to thank for a result after he kept out debutant Bobosi Byaruhanga’s long range shot inside the first 15 minutes.
Ssekeba, who was Ali Kimera’s second, also denied Tom Masiko’s curler from a freekick before also saving from Brian Nkuubi’s header off Aziz Kayondo’s cross.
Hamis Kiiza’s effort from Nkuubi’s assist was denied by the post as Vipers tried to look for maximum points. Mzee Dan Sserunkuma came off the bench, with Rahmat Ssenfuka paving way, but he couldn’t save his side.
The host’s best chance fell to Ivan Eyam but failed to beat Derrick Ochan with the shot stopper sending the ball over the cross bar.
Vipers (50 points) remain second on the 16-team log, six points behind leaders KCCA FC with just four games remaining.
The Ankole Lions remain fourth with 42 points, a point behind third placed URA who lost 1-0 at home to Fred Kajoba’s Maroons.
Next for Vipers is a home game against URA before visiting Police FC at Lugogo. Mbarara will visit Tooro United at Wankulukuku on matchday 27.
