Crested Cranes: Captain Tracy Jones Hopes History Repeat Itself Against Ethiopia

Crested Cranes Captain Tracy Jones Akiror is hoping for a repeat of history when Uganda face Ethiopia in the 2020 Summer Olympics qualifiers.

The team has already arrived in Addis ahead of Wednesday’s showdown.

Speaking before departure, the stylish youngster told journalists at FUFA house that it’s going to be a difficult tie, but the side has had enough preparations.

“We have prepared well, all my fellow players are in good shape, our coaches have been preparing to put us in the right shape,” said Akiror.

“We are looking forward to this game and all we hope for is a win, though it will not be an easy game since they have the home advantage but we are hopefully.

“We have ever played them in CECAFA which was played in Rwanda. We won 2-1, and we now hope that history can repeat itself even though we are the visitors.”

In November last year, Crested Cranes came a goal down to seal a 2-1 comeback against Ethiopia in Rwanda.

Ware Birtukan scored in the 37th minute but second half goals from Grace Aluka who scored a beautiful freekick and Yudaya Nakayenze gave the team a slim win.

Uganda will host the second leg on April 6 at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

Winner between Uganda and Ethiopia over two legs, will face Cameroon at the second round. The West African giants receives a bye at this stage.
