CAF Super Cup: Mohammed Shaban Picks Winners Medal As Raja Triumph

Saturday, March 30
Esperance 1-2 Raja Casablanca

Uganda’s Mohammed Shaban managed to get a winners medal, despite not making the final 18 man squad, as his Moroccan side Raja Casablanca edged Tunisia’s Esperance to clinch the 2019 CAF Super Cup.

Shaban who scored his first goal for Raja in a Confederation Cup 5-0 win against Gabon’s Mberi Sportif has struggled to find enough playing time.

He joined the side from KCCA where he was the Club’s top scorer with 18 goals that season, and signed a three year’s contract.

He recently came off the bench as Uganda was utterly humiliated by Tanzania to seal their historical AFCON qualification.

Raja End 19 Year Wait

Raja won their second trophy after a 19 year wait courtesy of goals from Abdelilah Hafidi and captain Badr Benoun.

Esperance’s Mohamed Youcef had leveled matters in the 57th minute but couldn’t hold on.

The Super Cup is an annual one-off match pitting the winner of the CAF Champions League and second-tier CAF Confederation Cup against each other.

Friday’s match was played in 2022 World Cup host nation, Qatar, the first time it has been played outside Africa.
