Vipers SC 2-0 Maroons FC

A contentious penalty highlighted Vipers 2-0 win over a hard fighting Maroons in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game played at St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
Roving left back Aziz Kayondo went down easily after minimal contact from Bronson Nsubuga who poked on his shoulder in the 37th minute for Referee Ronald Madanda to point to the spot.
After two minutes of protest from the Maroons players and fans who threw bottles and shoes on the pitch, Tom Masiko calmly sent Keeper Emmanuel Akol the wrong way to give the Venoms the lead.
The day’s captain Brian Nkuubi doubled the advantage with a swinging shot off Ibrahim Kiyemba’s delivery in the 78th minute to end Maroons’ hopes.
Maroons could have had a goal back late in the game but Pius Obuya fluffed his penalty wide after Kiyemba has handled the ball in the area.
Goalkeeper Akol had kept the score at bay denying Steven Mukwala and Mzee Dan Sserunkuma at point blank range.
This, is Vipers 13th win of the season, taking the club to 48 points, three below KCCA FC who eased past Kirinya Jinja SS.
