Express: Coach Ssemwogerere Rues Missed Chances Against URA FC

Express FC Coach George Ssemwogerere has blamed the missed opportunities for the loss against URA FC.

Express FC suffered a 1-0 away loss to URA FC in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League played at Mandela National Stadium on Tuesday.

“It was an average performance because we failed to use our chances,” Coach Ssemwogerere told Journalists. “We got many chances, six to be particular we were supposed to score at least two goals today.”

“I have to say that we played good football, building from the back and I am sure that in days to come, we will be good to go.

“I still have seven games, the teams above are just ahead like one or two points ahead. There is nothing to be scared of.”

Disan Galiwango in action. Mugabi Don

Disan Galiwango forced Alitho James into an early save before Michael Birungi and Tony Odur both missed at point blank range.

Birungi, still in the first half, rounded off veteran right back Yeseri Waibi but failed to beat Alitho who kept out his effort.

Ssemwogerere brought on Frank Zaga Tumwesigye and Brian Umony in the second half, but couldn’t find the way through.

Ronald Kigongo benefited from Express’ poor clearance to fire back into an empty net to give URA the lead with just ten minutes left on normal time.

Umony had a chance to level matters – with a keeper to beat – fired an inch wide. Davies Mayanja also had his long range shot easily collected by Alitho.

Express Closer To Relegation

Express FC are eleventh on the 16 team log with 29 points, nine above the red zone.

This was Express’ ninth defeat of the season – Mbarara, Onduparaka, Kirinya Jinja, SC Villa, Tooro United, Police FC, BUL and Vipers are the other team to have beaten the Red Eagles this season.

On the team’s poor performance recently, Ssemwogerere commented:

“I have to use the players that I have to get what I need, this comes with a challenge but I don’t have any other option.

“They will learn this with time, am trying to build a team that can do attack and defend well at the same time.”

Since his arrival, Express FC has won twice, lost three times and drawn twice under Coach Ssemwogerere.

Next for the Red Eagles are two back to back home league games against Paidha and SC Villa at Betway Muteesa II Stadium – Wankulukuku.
