Uganda Cranes: Local Based Players Intensify Training

Uganda Cranes’ preparations for the upcoming AFCON qualification game against Tanzania later this matter have intensified at Lugogo.

Wednesday marked the third of the non residential training conducted at Lugogo.

The team of locally based players was joined by Vipers players Taddeo Lwanga, Moses Waiswa, Halid Lwaliwa and Dan Mzee Sserunkuma. Express’ Michael Birungi Proline’s Bright Anukani also trained.

Ivan Eyam (Mbarara City) whose call up to the team ahead of team-mate Paul Mucureezi raised eyebrows, did not train with the rest of the players as he joined mbarara City for their League game against Ndejje.

Cranes Coach Sebastien Desabre held a press briefing on Wednesday where he revealed that the team will be without German based Herbert Blockhon will not feature against Tanzania after suffering an injury over the weekend.

Blockhon becomes the second player to get injured after Denis Iguma who was replaced Crizestom Ntambi. His replacement will be named before Friday.

“We need to finish our qualifiers on a good note,” Desabre told the press. We are targeting a victory against Tanzania.”

The Frenchman added: “Tanzania will be under pressure and we expect their stadium to be under full capacity.”

“We will use the game against Tanzania as a precursor for our preparations for the AFCON 2019 tournament. This will also be a moment for me to assess new players on the team.”
