UPL: Villa Die Fighting In KCCA Rout

Saturday, March 2
KCCA FC 4-2 SC Villa

SC Villa put up a late show but it will however go unnoticed as the record league winners suffered a 4-2 loss to KCCA FC at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

Trailing 4-0, Charles Lwanga and Ambrose Kirya scored a goal each – 66th and 82nd minute – to halve the deficit.

“It’s a game we wanted to win, but we didn’t do our best,” noted Villa Coach Douglas Bamweyana. “I can say that we lost to a better team however.”

KCCA FC, coming into the game as outright favourites struggled to breakthrough until Allan Kyambadde played to Mike Mutyaba for the latter to break the deadlock with three minutes left on the first stanza.

Allan Okello doubled the advantage at the hour mark from the spot, after the teenager was tripped in the area by Asuman Alishe.

Mustafa Kizza and Kyambadde finished the rout, as KCCA completed a double over city rivals at Lugogo, in a highly attended encounter.

The victory extends KCCA FC lead atop to 48 points – three above Vipers who had leveled the tally (45) following a 2-0 win over Express FC on Friday at Kitende.

This was the seventh loss for SC Villa in the league, who remain 12th, two places above danger, with 23 points.

Next for KCCA FC is a long trip to Fort Portal to face Tooro United, a team that knocked them out of Uganda Cup via spot-kicks, at Buhinga on Wednesday.

SC Villa will face Kirinya Jinja SS, also on Wednesday, at Namboole in a floodlights game.
